Great News from Dublin Poomsae Competition
Sunday 17th April
Nathan Magee - Gold
Liam Scott - Bronze

Another podium finish for Nathan Magee (Gold) and Liam Scott (Bronze) in the Dublin Open Poomsae Competition held in Dublin on Sunday 17th April 2011 . Also in the picture is Jenny Robinson from our sister club, Valley Taekwondo who also got bronze.
With players from all over Ireland it was a great competition. All techniques have to be clean and crisp and the performance of the artistic and technical kicks and strikes exceptional. Poomsae being the performance of these movements against an imaginary opponent and is the foundation of training in Taekwondo.

Golden Delight in Dorset
Competition success continues…this time down in Dorset. Sunday 24 th October saw three Junior Development NI Squad fighters compete in the 2010 Dorset Open competition in Bournemouth, which attracts teams from all over GB, and some Europeans.

This competition was all about implementing the tactics being developed in the NI Squad where the mantras are, “coming to get you” , “ drop-in” and “slide back- hit back”.
James Johnston (-51kg) was up against the British Nationals silver medalist who was aggressive and rushed in with his attacks. James slid back ...sometimes right across the ring…. then countered at the appropriate point. James simply outclassed and battered his opponent until the fight was stopped by the referee at 26 – 7! James re-wrote the fight manual!
The opponent Dermot McAteer (-55kg) fought was also a seasoned fighter. In only his third fight Dermot did really well....one silly head shot was the only real difference. Dermot was 1-1 with about 15 seconds to go in the first round then he got caught with the head shot and another hit.....5-1 down .... second round the other guy was happy just to sit back and keep the lead as best he could. A great learning opportunity.
Unfortunately Fergus O’Brien (-63kg) was suffering from an ankle injury leading up the fight and we knew that it would be an issue. Unfortunately Fergus’ foot packed in early in the fight after dishing out some hard hits. Fergus struggled through to end of the fight and was outpointed.
Gareth Whyte was again brilliant on the coaching side of things. Gareth keeps his cool and really knows the game and oozes confidence for the guys.
Another great competition. If you are interested in competing then contact Bertie Nicholson (NI Kyorugi Team Coach) on 07870811970
